About the Artist

Back Go to Works

Born 1973, India

An artist, writer, translator and media personality who after more than a decade in journalism turned to full-time art. His education and exposure to art goes back to his days of covering the arts and letters beat for some of India’s best-known newspapers and magazines. His serious pursuit of art however began after he took a break from active journalism in 2006 to work on a novel (work-in-progress).

In this time he started making abstract works that in a way began to translate a lot of his ideas and concepts about light and colour and the form that results from their interplay. His recent practice has included the use of X-rays of various body parts and machines as installations and light boxes. In the short time that he has been painting and making art he has had several shows in India. His work was also shown at the prestigious India Art Summit (now known as India Art Fair) in 2009.

As a writer he is interested in the social and cultural similarities that a shrinking world is increasingly revealing to us. An alumnus of the esteemed Asian College of Journalism he has attended Bharati Mukherjee and Clark Blaise’s well-known creative writing workshop. His pieces on travel, art and literature have been published in leading newspapers and magazines of the country including the Times of India, Economic Times, Hindustan Times, Outlook, Tehelka, Art & Deal and The Little Magazine. Since 2010 he is Programming Consultant at Lok Sabha Television, the Indian lower House of Parliament’s 24X7 channel, where he also does a TV show with Members of Parliament.

He has translated into English Asghar Wajahat’s much-celebrated Hindi play about the Partition of India called  Jisne Lahore Nahi Dekhya…(‘Unborn in Lahore’).He has also translated short stories by Munshi Premchand, Nirmal Verma, Bhisham Sahni and Ajeet Cour. He has also written columns on esoteric and futuristic matters in HT City, Delhi, and Maxim magazine.
